Ola emailed me (Nikki) May 2011 to introduce his project. Ola is Project Manager at Clays Lane Trust. He is currently running an essential medicine project called Donate-A-Drug. They obtain essential medicines and supplies from pharmaceutical companies and hospitals in England and take them into Africa where they could be utilized effectively and free of charge. The project strictly adheres to WHO guidelines for drug donations. The Donate-A-Drug project is aimed at tackling health care inequalities and inaccessibility in developing countries, through partnerships with NHS Trusts, charitable organizations, and pharmaceutical companies. Initially, we will be active in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa and we continue to work on expanding to other countries in Africa. Over 70% of the continent’s poor live in rural areas, where more than half of the population do not have access to essential drugs. The project’s secondary aim is to enable healthcare / pharmaceutical organisations to salvage medicine and other healthcare products in an environmentally friendly manner while also helping to combat diseases worldwide. The project is sponsored by Clay’s Lane Centre Trust™, which is a non profit organization based in Stratford, London. Mbali Madi Project Assistant
