The main news from this week’s UK-Nigeria meeting was John announcing Fantsuam Foundation’s vision for its Community Media Unit (CMU). As this is such a new and important issue all the information has been written up separately under the CMU initiative.
Although the main focus of our discussion was about the CMU the team were able to cover a number of additional issues as well.
Attachab: John told us that he has made a new contact who has trained at Songhai and together they are currently exploring the possibility of him working at Attachab. We are very excited by this as some key FF staff had visited Songhai with Marcus Simmons in November 2009 and we had all be impressed by this centre of excellence.
Prior to the meeting John had emailed the link to an article written up about Sabo who was a regular at these weekly UK-Nigeria Meetings in 2008. John confirmed that Sabo is not back at FF, he was just visiting and keen to share his US visit experience with the local youths.
Photo Printing Project: The feasibility of running a successful small medium enterprise was discussed further and the challenges were noted.
Feedback from last week’s VSO meeting: VSO will continue to support the same programmes in Gaiya and HIV but with reduced funding. In addition to these existing programmes John tells us that VSO is working with the UK Government to send some youths on exchange to Fantsuam. This is for July and has some funding attached to it.
First Thursday Meeting: This monthly online meeting is due Thursday 8th and it was agreed that this will be extended to become more inclusive ie people from East Africa, Kenya USA. Kelechi and Pam stayed online after the official meeting had ended to look at using Etherpad
