Universal Learning Centre

I have no personal experience of the Universal Learning Centre but I came across it today because I moderate comments at dadamac.net and someone posted this one: Haiti, a legitimate cause Hey, I'm seeking help for the kids of Haiti. I'm doing my part for a non-profit organization in which the main focus is to creating oppurtunities for the children in haiti. If anybody wants to give money then this is the site: Donate to Haiti or Help Haiti They give children in Haiti books and teach them. Yes, they're a real cause. Please help us I confess my first...

Jatropha

Hi Vijay Sorry you could not make it to February First Thursday, but I know you are very busy at present. You would have met some interesting people including members of the Dadamac team in Nigeria. It would have been interesting to compare some of the eco-developments there, such as growing Jatrohpa, with what is happening in India I mention Jatropha because at our UK-Nigeria meeting yesterday we were told that "we are raising a nursery of 2000 jathropha palnts we intend to transplant when the rains begin" Regarding Jatropha in India, I have just seen this article which says...

Photo feedback loop

This is how our feedback works Marcus Simmons taught about mulching on a permaculture training course. Back in the UK he asked for feedback. Feedback was requested during a Dadamac UK-Nigeria team-meeting This photo was sent back to the UK Marcus saw that the mulch was being laid too thinly He sent a detailed email suggesting that one area should be covered with a much thicker mulch, so that people could see if they would get a better result that way.

February First Thursday Feedback

Today's First Thursday meeting was a mixture of networking and discussing permaculture. It brought together people from Minciu Sodas, from the Video Bridge workshop and from the Dadamac Community in the UK and Nigeria. Topics mentioned included the possibility of practicing permaculture on a very small scale, the impact of permaculture, and if it was difficult to practice.

Sickle Cell Disease in Rural Nigeria

I was very interested to learn from John that he had attended a workshop looking at the issue of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in resource - poor environments. This set me thinking on two levels. First as a former paediatric nurse (I haven't worked in a hospital enviro n ment for a decade but I'm not sure if you ever stop being a nurse!) . . . and , secondly, as a mother. A s a nurse , you quickly realise that Sickle C ell is a very nasty genetic blood condition which can bring sufferers ex cruciating pain ...

Video Bridge Community Online

The community that Franz Nahrada created through the Video Bridge Workshop continues to flourish online in various ways now we have gone our separate ways. Jakub Staniewicz , one of the Video Bridge workshop participants, made a good point about linking "communites of communities" through Video Bridges (and other online connections). I feel that this is what we are starting to do now between the Dadamac community and the Video Bridge community. Since the workshop I have: Connected with some participants and Franz on Skype (some typed, some voice, some video) Discussed at the Dadamac UK-Nigeria team meeting a possible...
