Updates from Fantsuam

At this week’s UK-Nigeria meeting John Dada of Fantsuam Foundation told us that he had had a phone interview with KIVA. John went on to explain that KIVA is seeking partners who use local solutions to provide access to microfinance. They have 3 levels of intervention: above 2 million, above 200,00 and 20,000 USD - the smallest amount being the most appropriate for Fantsuam’s needs. John reported that KIVA have not been active in Nigeria, but that Fantsuam have been following them up for about 5 years now and a recent visitor to Fantsuam from Dublin offered to re-introduce them...hence...

Attachab Farm: Project Update

Attachab featured heavily at this week’s UK-Nigeria online Skype meeting. Following the successful fund raising by FastTractor John Dada of Fantsuam Foundation gave us the following quick update: “We have the tractor driver, Linus Kallat and his assistant is Thomas. Thomas already works at Attachab and will double up as assistant” Unfortunately, and as was reported at the previous week’s meeting, the heavy rains have delayed the full utilisation of the tractor. John went on to inform us: “The French embassy funding has come to an end. However, It did it cover everything that was planned and there is still...

John Dada of Fantsuam sent Dadamac UK the following updates plus some wonderful photos. (the one featured here shows John at the wheel of the Fast Tractor ). Future Planning at Fantsuam

The week’s UK-Nigeria meeting took the form of a typed discussion between John Dada and Pamela McLean. Organisational transparency was the theme of the day and centered around the story of the Fast Tractor acquisition plus future plans for the Attachab site. John told us: “The Tractor Committee has employed a full-time driver.... and he has an assistant. The driver is well-known among the communities, so he will also double up as marketing person, while Osbert - a member of the Tractor team - will handle the payments etc.” Photos play an important part in telling the Fantsuam Foundation story...

Tractor waiting for rain to stop!

At this week’s UK-Nigeria weekly meeting John Dada gave us the latest news about the Fast Tractor that had arrived the previous week. John explained that the Tractor team had held its weekly meeting and went on to say: “ The demand for tractor service in this month is low due to high level of rainfall. The farm roads are sodden, very wet and will be made worse if tractor attempts going in at this time. So we are waiting for rains to reduce and harvests to start. Moving harvests from farms into homes and markets will be the next...

Tractors, bombs and curfews

Such is our relationship with John Dada of Fantsuam Foundation that despite bombs, curfews and poor connectivity he still endeavored to join us at our weekly UK-Nigeria online meeting. The previous day John had been in contact with Pamela McLean via a typed Skype conversation. The connection dropped from time to time and John was running short of power - but we managed to exchange some news - below is part of their conversation (NEPA is grid electricity supply): John said: “We are now under 24hrs curfew as a result of the church bomb blasts of last sunday in Zaria and...

Tractor News

This week’s UK-Nigeria online meeting was unusual as we did not have the Nigerian input! The reason for this was that John Dada had emailed us to say that he had been visiting Jos hospital and had felt the blast when the bomb detonated. He was therefore busy making arrangements for the patient he was visiting to be moved. Despite this John was able update us via emails. The Fast Tractor story has now reached an exciting stage. Pamela Mclean was able to confirm that she had met with businessman Cass Biriyok at his offices in Canary Wharf and who...

Building for the future

Once again this week’s UK-Nigeria meeting brought exciting updates about various projects and most gratifying of all we had an unexpected but very welcome news that what had originally began as an ICT initiative with Oyo State last year seems to be shaping up to be an exciting opportunity for Youth training and small business development. Oyo State Government has asked John Dada to facilitate contact with Solomon who has been the person who, together with John, have pioneered the use of compressed earth brick in the construction of new buildings. John tells us that the main plan and idea...
